Ramnagar Fort was built in the 18th century by Kashi Naresh Maharaja Balwant Singh, the ruler of the Benares State. It served as the official residence of the royal family of Varanasi (Kashi Naresh). The fort still stands as a symbol of ancient royalty, culture, and tradition.

Even today, the present Maharaja of Varanasi, Anant Narayan Singh, resides in a part of the fort and is revered by locals as the symbolic custodian of Varanasi’s traditions.
